Meet Our Founder - Matt Garne

From an early age, Matt knew he wanted to become an RAF pilot, and having completed his studies in 2009 at Manchester Metropolitan University, he officially started the application process. While his application was being assessed, Matt was keen to find a job where he learned a new skill but one which was also physically demanding. He knew the importance of staying in shape and the emphasis on fitness as his application progressed. As an apprentice in the Lake District, he began to learn the art of dry stone walling, a job that not only ticked all the boxes but that he found to be highly satisfying and rewarding.

Matt’s RAF application process took a gruelling 18 months, with numerous tests, stages and requirements having to be passed and met. One of these requirements included dropping 8kg in three weeks to meet ejection seat limits.

“I once read what it means to give up smoking and that there was only one clear way of looking at it in order to succeed. It was to align your thoughts and identify yourself as a non-smoker. This decision immediately rewires the brain and makes the follow through of giving up smoking much easier. I applied this same notion to losing the excess weight - once I decided it had to go, and was going to go, it was easy. I kept my intake to 500 calories a day, and would work out for four hours a day. I even managed to drop an extra 2kg. It’s all about mental strength.”

“Staying fit is an integral part of being in the RAF and I often find myself in the gym during any breaks or downtime. Working out keeps my head clear and feeling in good condition. It would be hard to go back to not feeling the best version of myself’.

Continuing to strengthen his body and mind, Matt would often travel to various locations for training purposes. One of his favourite locations to visit was L.A, where he truly embraced the relaxed and healthy way of life when he wasn’t with the military. In L.A, Matt met an entrepreneur named Richard, who introduced him to a more specific lifestyle which involved alkaline foods and choices.

In his research, Matt found that by adopting a more alkaline lifestyle energy levels and mental clarity should improve. He then began his journey. He paired his new lifestyle with educational reading and conference attendance which allowed him to work on his own personal development. One of his favourite personalities was Tony Robins, whose motivational coaching helped him achieve a more balanced and holistic approach to life.

From 2011 onwards, Matt’s application was officially accepted and he joined the RAF full time. With his passion for flying, came his love for fitness. From Lands End to John O’Groats epic cycling trips, walking around Ascension Island and most recently running the London Marathon, fitness continues to be a driving force for Matt.

Having experienced the physical and mental change from an alkaline diet, Matt knew that he and Richard needed to explore the ways in which they could help people feel their best possible selves. The wheels for the creation of Your Water, were officially in motion.

Once you have found your brand voice, share an infographic! The beauty of an infographic is that it can be shared on social media or in a brand’s monthly newsletter - the material has the capacity to be replicated across numerous channels and reach new audiences. Infographics are visually engaging, easy to consume and much more interesting to read than a regular article. They also don’t have to be solely posted online. Your Water uses infographics across their design labels to capture the attention of the bottle owner as well as passer’s by.

Linking up with like-minded personalities can be a great way to increase brand awareness and this could be done in numerous ways: partnering with an influencer for a social media campaign; teaming up with a TV personality for a national commercial or even collaborating with another company which compliments yours. For example, a champagne brand might want to consider partnering with a crystal glass company. If your audience likes “brand A” they might just like “brand B”.
